The new exhibition hall at the Südbahnmuseum Mürzzuschlag

Since June 2007 the Southern Railway Museum Mürzzuschlag
has been extended with an additional exhibition hall – the Round Engine-Shed!
The Round Engine-Shed, built in the late 19th century,
belongs to the technically historically significant unity –
Round Engine-Shed & turntable as well as workshop & sliding stage.
This arrangement in its originality is the last still preserved in Austria,
and for this reason has been classified as a historical monument since 2006.

The Round Engine-Shed gives room for two main subject areas:
The largest collection of Austrian rail trolleys and motor rail vehicles from private property
as well as historical Southern Railway locomotives – the mighty symbols of the railway!
The exhibition about the historical development of standard gauge rail trolleys,
rail vehicles and motor rail vehicles presents original vehicles and reconstructions,
which were in use for railway supervision and railway maintenance in the period from 1838 to 1970.
The more than 2000 m2 large hall offers enough room for exceptional events
in a specially adapted area for events, framed by locomotives.
